The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) have now formally merged and will operate as one department.
It has been announced that the Department of Immigration and Border protection (DIBP), and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS), have now formally merged and will operate as one body. The new department will be known as the Australian Border Force (ABF). In a statement released on 10th July 2015 by Linda Geddes, the First Assistant Secretary, Trade, Customs and Industry, she says that "the merger brings together policy and operations relating to border protection under the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection." Further, It "allows the Department to more effectively deliver on the well managed movement of goods and people across Australia's border, while ensuring we remain protected from risks that threaten our security and economy."
